This straight bypass valve lets you control water flow in the heating circuit depending on the water pressure across it. It is also ideal for maintaining a minimum flow rate through the boiler, as well as reducing circulation pressure when there are closed water paths. A bypass circuit is required in installations where the boiler manufacturer states so, or if the minimum flow rate needs maintaining when the boiler is firing.
Automatic bypass valves are important when heating systems have large amounts of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs). When TRVs are open the automatic bypass valve remains closed. As the TRVs begin to close, the automatic bypass valve slowly opens and maintains water flow. Using an automatic bypass valve also limits noise in systems that can come from excess water velocities.
Manual or fixed position valves do not regulate flow and instead let water bypass even when it's unneeded, building regulations state that bypass circuits need automatic bypass valves rather than fixed position.
