Gate valves and stopcocks are essential for shutting off or opening water supplies. Gate valves are more common for commercial properties, while stopcocks are typically for the mains water supply in domestic buildings. Gate valves are designed to shut off and switch on the flow of fluids or gases within various systems. This is done with the help of a barrier or gate, which is operated by the wheelhead. Also known as sluice valves, these can’t regulate flow in a measured way like other types of valves. They only have two settings, which are fully closed and fully opened. You’ll find gate valves most commonly used with pipes featuring diameters larger than 2" because they’re easier and less expensive to construct than more sophisticated types of valves at these sizes.
Stopcocks are similar to gate valves and can be used internally or externally. The former controls the flow from the water mains to the home and the latter controls turning off the water via a plug or stopper. Whichever you choose, both valve types are built from highly durable materials like forged brass and bronze. These high-performance valves are also designed to strict British standards.
